Chairman
Candi Moore

Candada J. Moore, an Ohio attorney, serves as Manager of Trust Operations and Corporate Trust for Huntington National Bank.  Prior to joining the Huntington in 1991, she was associated for ten years with the law firm of Squire, Sanders, and Dempsey, where she practiced law in the area of public finance. Ms. Moore received a B.A. in business administration and psychology from Ohio Northern University and a J.D., summa cum laude, from The Ohio State University College of Law.  She is a member of the State and Local Government Law Committee of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Columbus Bar Association and the National Association of Bond Lawyers.  

Ms. Moore resides with her husband Steve Mershon in Granville, Ohio, where she serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Licking Land Trust and the President of the Board of Trustees of the Bryn Du Commission.  She is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.

Doug Spieles

Doug Spieles is a professor of environmental studies at Denison University, where he teaches courses on ecosystem management and wetland ecology.  A member of he Licking Land Trust Board since 2004, Doug is interested in conservation ecology, environmental education and ecological succession.  He is the author of Protected Land: Disturbance, Stress, and American Ecosystem Management, due out in October 2010 from Springer publications.

Mark Roth
 

Mark has been a member of the Licking Land Trust Board for over 10 years. He grew up in Granville and now lives in Newark, Ohio in an old historic house with his wife and two step daughters. Mark is a real estate attorney and has worked as the CFO and in-house counsel for a private commercial real estate developer for 17 years. This has given him extensive experience in land use issues such as surveys, environmental site assessments, title issues, zoning and easements.

Mark graduated with a BS in Business Administration from Boston College and a Juris Doctor from Catholic University. Mark is also an Ohio Woodland Steward having completed this Ohio Department of Natural Resources course on forestry.

As someone who enjoys hiking in the woods and being outdoors Mark purchased his own woods over 10 years ago. It is a 20 acre woodlot just north of Alexandria that is currently under CAUV, which is the auditor’s current agricultural use valuation classification. Some of Mark’s interests include biking, skiing, gardening, landscaping, glass blowing, reading and old house renovation. Mark is also active in his church where his wife serves as the minister.

Larry Bicking 

Larry is experienced in public administration including property and facilities management, parks and recreation as well as open space and infrastructure financing.  He is active in the community and in governance with several organizations.

 

Lyn Boone

Lyn Boone retired in 2010 from the staff of Denison University, where she served as Senior Development Officer for Foundation & Corporate Relations.  She has been a resident of Granville for twenty-five years.  Previously she lived in Oberlin, Ohio where she worked for Oberlin College.

In Central Ohio Lyn has served as a volunteer on several organizational boards, including the Friends of the Granville Library (1990-94); the Welsh Hills School (1994-2000); and Audubon Ohio (1999-2006 and 2007-09).  Currently she edits the newsletter for the East Central Ohio Audubon Chapter and serves on the newsletter and fund-raising committees for the Granville Historical Society (GHS).  Her GHS service also includes twenty years’ involvement in the preservation of Granville’s Old Colony Burying Ground, and leadership of the Granville Oral History Project in 2000-02.

Lyn holds the B.A. and M.A. from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.  She lives with her husband Keith Boone in Granville Township.

 

Pat Deering

Pat Deering works for Licking County Soil & Water Conservation District.  She assists with outreach, education and public relations, writes grants and manages special projects.  She manages the District’s farmland preservation efforts including Ohio Department of Agriculture easement purchase applications.  She oversaw creation of the first Preserved Land and Open Space Map for Licking County and managed the Licking County Century Farms book project, published via Blurb.com.

Pat has a B.S. in Social Work and a Master of City and Regional Planning degree from The Ohio State University.  Her past experience includes over 15 years in human services planning and administration, working and volunteering for nonprofit social services organizations.  She has several years of nursery production and gardening experience.  She joined the Licking Land Trust Board in 2007.  Pat has a passion for conservation, native plants and gardening and is an Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist.  She and her partner, Keith Ward, moved from Columbus in 2005 and live northeast of Newark.  Pat also helps manage two family farms.

 

Linda Habig

Prior to 2005, Linda spent a 33-year career as a corporate finance banker, managing a national line of business for Banc One Corporation, now a part of JPMorgan Chase bank.  Since then, she has done a complete career switch, building on a lifelong avocation of music.  Currently she is an affiliate instructor in Denison University's Suzuki Program, teaching flute to many young students.  She also plays flute in many ensembles throughout the area.

 

Linda and her husband Bill live happily on their 35 acres of rolling Granville Township farmland, along with their two horses, much wildlife, and birds of every imaginable color and song.  When not fluting or conserving land, Linda is likely to be riding her Paint mare, Jessie, through the woods and fields of Licking County.  

 

Craig McDonald

Craig McDonald is a science teacher, 8th Grade Team Coordinator, and Ski Club Advisor at Granville Middle School and the Owner and head-coach at Always Forward CrossFit in Granville, Ohio.  Craig has a B.S. cum laude with Distinction in Environmental Science and a M.S. in Natural Resources from The Ohio State University.  

Craig has volunteered his time and energy locally, serving on Granville Township's Land Management Committee, founding and serving as Garden Coordinator at the Granville Elementary School-Community Partnership Garden, and has guided backpacking programs for over 10 years for the Granville Recreation District.

Craig resides in Granville with his wife Dianne and daughter Margaret.  Craig and his family enjoy CrossFit which helps them train for rock climbing, backpacking in the mountains, ultra-running, and skiing. 

 

Mike Mickelson

Mike Mickelson is a retired Denison University professor of physics and astronomy and has served on the Granville Township Zoning Commission.  He agreed to serve on the Licking Land Trust because of his interests in preserving the rural character of Licking County consistent with sensible growth.  While on the zoning commission, he worked to redesign Granville Township's Planned Unit Development ordinance to encourage clustered residential design on smaller lots while designating 50% of the subdividion as undeveloped space.  He continues zoning work for McKean Township and works to preserve farmland and open space through improved zoning.  As a Licking Land Trust board member, he works with a committee to obtain accreditation for the Licking Land Trust.  Land Trust Accreditation is vitally important as protected lands often come under attack and need to be defended.  Land Trust Accreditation is designed to help build and recognize strong land trusts, foster public confidence in land conservation and ensure the long-term protection of land.   

 

Greg Sharkey

Greg Sharkey serves as Senior Philanthropy Advisor for The Nature Conservancy.  He assists donors in considering various gift plans to accomplish their philanthropic goals, and helps state-based fundraising teams with strategies for their donors.  Greg also counsels donors on the features, benefits, and limitations of charitable giving platforms like Donor Advised Funds and Private Foundations.

 

Prior to joining The Nature Conservancy in January 2008, he served as Director of Planned Giving/Senior Development Officer at his alma mater, Denison University.  Greg directed all aspects of Denison's well established planned giving program, and managed a traditional portfolio of major gift prospects as well.

 

He was a trial lawyer and partner in the Philadelphia law firm of Sweeney, Sheehan, and Spencer prior to his career in philanthropy.  Greg is a graduate of Denison University (1984) and Villanova University School of Law (1987).

 

He is immediate past president of The Central Ohio Planned Giving Council.  Greg serves as a Board member of The Licking Land Trust and The Granville Foundation.  He lives on a small farm in the idyllic college town of Granville, Ohio with his wife Ginny and their four children- Samantha, Dylan, Maura, and Rowan.

Wendy Bittel
